Additional Assignment #5

Adventures in Pencil Integration:
John Spencer had a great outlook on education. He cares about and understands students. Using pencils to relate to technology is a great way to get us to read between the lines. He gives different experiences in each post. He is able to see how the world is changing to technology and writes about it in ways his readers can understand.

As we get older, things change. The world has a lot more technology now than when I was in elementary school and now I am commenting on elementary school student's blogs. Students need to learn in ways that they will be educated, not just know it for a week to be tested on then lose it after that week is over.

The Alabama Learning Exchange (ALEX) is a very powerful resource for teachers. You can get lesson plans and resources to use with those lesson plans and just around the classroom. The quote on there homepage say," Quality for Every Fact of Learning," and I think that says it all. There goals is for students to have the best educators and instructors. The material on the ALEX website is listed my subject and grade, which makes it so easy to find. Once you go to a certain subject, it gives the state standards and lesson plans. I feel like I will have to do so many lesson plans when I begin teaching, anything I could find would be very useful. I would refer this website to any of my co-workers or classmates. t and grade level. I think I will use this website plenty in the near future and I will be very thankful that it's available.

Alabama connecting classrooms, educators, and students statewide (ACCESS) is a learning program that provides classroom courses and teachers via technology. There vision: The State of Alabama will provide equal access to high quality instruction to improve student achievement through distance learning. There goal: The goal of the distance learning plan is to create equity through additional educational offerings for all Alabama public high school students. They use video and web-based online courses and it available to all high school students. The courses are taken during the day at the school the student attends. It would be very interesting to be able to come in contact with. I love the idea of it, but I am in elementary education, so it won't be used in the classes I will be teaching.

Progress Report on Final Project

I will be working with Mattie Bearden on the Final Project. We will be creating a Glogster with online resources for elementary teachers. I think it will be fun to use Glogster and create something on there. I think Mattie is excited, too!

Instruction:
Watch the video iPhone 4 vs. iPad (6:35) on YouTube.com. View this video and tell what you think about the video in by writing one or more paragraphs. If you have both, tell which one you think is better and what you would rather use.

Response:
I think the video was really interesting. It really shows the difference and which one would load a webpage faster than the other. When all is said and done, I think they are pretty much the same when it comes to speed. I don't have both, I just have an iPhone and I am very impressed with the speed that comes from it.

C4K #3-7 summary

C4K #3
Levi’s Mighty Mariner Animation
Levi made a video using pictures and his voice. I was very clever!
I commented the following on his video:
“What a neat video you did! You are very clever and made a really cool video! Keep up the good work and keep that imagination in gear. My name is Caryn and I am a student at the University of South Alabama. –Caryn”

C4K #4
Geordie’s blog was the difference between popularity and friendship. He did’t really seem to enjoy writing blogs but he did a good job on this one. He compared differences to a movie which was really cool.
I commented the following on Geordie’s post:
“Geordie,
I am Caryn and I am in Dr. Strange’s EDM310 class at the University of South Alabama. I feel the same way that you do about Cars. Very silly storyline, but you pointed out something really neat when you compared their friendships. I agree that there is a great difference in popularity and friendship. Cool blog!!!”

C4K #5
I commented on a blog written by Joshua. It was a very short blog that says “School isn’t the best thing in the world for me i hate school is lame they teach thing I already know.” I left a comment and it has not appeared on the page yet. I explained in my comment that the will come across something he doesn’t know and will eventually learn something and I hope he begins to enjoy school better.

C4K #6
I was assigned to read a blog written by Morgan S. she posted about using a cell phone responsibly. She talked about how you shouldn’t waste minutes, don’t bully on it, keep it in a safe place, finish homework before using it, and not responding to unfamiliar numbers. To be in the 6th grade she is aware of what needs to be done before using her phone.
I commented the following one her post”
“Morgan,
My name is Caryn and I go to the University of South Alabama. I am in Dr. Strange’s EDM 310 class and I was assigned to read your blog. I loved this blog! You seem so responsible with your phone and that is very important! Phones can be a major distraction if you are doing homework so it is definitely a good idea to put it away while you are doing school work. Talking to friends when the minutes are free is also very smart and responsible. Great blog! Keep up the good work!
Caryn”

Mr. McClung posted about “Killer Parties.” This post was about him telling his students about the importance and differences in all the holidays and movement we have.
I commented the following to Mr. McClung’s post:
“Hi! My name is Caryn and I am in Dr. Strange’s EDM 310 class at The University of South Alabama. I think it is important for students to know the different political terms and movements. If a student believes or thinks something and they get into a “debate” about it they will need to know their stuff to be able to back it up with the correct term or evidence. I hope their projects turned out well!”

First Graders in Ms. Cassidy's Class
Little Kids... Big Potentials

I loved watching this video. I think he use of technology is smart and it teaches the children how to use the computer and one of the students said that the more they write blogs, the better their spelling gets and if the child is learning and having fun, it's that much better.

Blogs and videos would be what I would use in my classroom. Students learn from seeing something over and over again. Also, I think students learn better by seeing classsmates to something or talk about something. A teach may come across students not completing their blogs or not participating in an activity or video. If students are making a video as a group, it teaches them to work together and plan out what is going to be done.

C4T summary

I was assigned to check out Jen Deyenberg's Journey Through Teaching with Technology. The blog is titled "Trails Optional."

I read "Infographics- Complie, Present, and Share Information."

The post was about infographics, which are visual representations of a set of data, facts, statistics, and images to support a point of view. It is a cool chart, graphic, image used to compile and sort data. I found the post very interesting and I knew you could put data and information into graphics but I didn't realize how cool and interesting they realy were. There were five examples of infographics in this post and my favorite one was about texting and driving and the dangers of it and which states ban texting while driving.

I commented the following:
"Hi!
My name is Caryn and I go to The University of South Alabama. I am in Dr. Strange’s EDM310 class. I was assinged to check out your blog! I love this post. The examples you used and put into pictures was really cool. I think the one about texting and driving was really cool! I never realized how much more interesting info, data, and stats would look in a picture instead of just being listed! Loved the post!!
